Reflexology Frequently Asked Questions

Must I be completely undressed for a Reflexology session?
No....all you will have to remove for your Reflexology session are your shoes and socks.

What is the difference between Massage Therapy and Reflexology?
Massage Therapy works through the muscoskeletal system, while Reflexology works through the central nervous system. Reflexology works through the stimulation of the nerve reflexes on the feet and ankles, hands, ears or face.

What will the Reflexology session feel like?
The Reflexology session starts with strokes that will help calm your nervous system and relax. As your body becomes relaxed, thumb & finger pressure will gradually be increased to relax specific reflex areas and relieve areas of tension. Often, a light oil or lotion is used to allow your feet to be worked without causing excessive friction to the skin. You should communicate immediately if you feel any discomfort so that another approach may be taken. Reflexology is most effective when your body is not resisting.

What should I do during the Reflexology session?
During the Reflexology session, make yourself comfortable. Many people just close their eyes and completely relax, communicating if/when they need more or less pressure, or anything else relevant to the session. If you have any questions regarding the session or about the particular technique you are receiving, feel free to ask.

How will I feel after the Reflexology session?
Most people feel very relaxed.  Since toxins may be released from your body, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your session.

What are the benefits of Reflexology?
Reflexology can help reduce stress, improve circulation, promotes relaxation, and create an overall sense of well-being.

Are there any medical conditions that would make Reflexology inadvisable?
Yes. That's why it's imperative that, before you begin your session, the practitioner asks general health questions. It is very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, depending on the condition, approval from your doctor may be required.

How Much Time Should I Allow?

You should allow thirty to sixty minutes for the reflexologist to work. The client may be treated in a reclining reflexology chair or on a massage table.

Who Can Benefit From Reflexology?

People of all ages can benefit from reflexology treatments. We all suffer from stress at one time or another, and aches and pains are a part of daily life. Reflexology has a long history of promoting relaxation and healing.

How Frequently Should I Have A Reflexology Treatment?

Once a week is normal; an extreme case would be twice a week. The body needs time to normalize between treatments. Reflexology also works wonderfully in conjunction with other body therapies. Again, you should wait about a week between therapies to avoid overloading the body.

Can I Do This At Home?

Certain areas of the hands can be worked on, but it is rather awkward to work on your own feet. Some areas are hard to reach, and it’s difficult to relax. Still, your therapist can share some selfhelp reflexology points with you.

 Will My Feet Be Washed?

If you have come directly from a day at work or have a problem with foot odor, the practitioner may wash your feet before the beginning of the session.

 But I’m Ticklish!

The practitioner will adjust her touch to what is comfortable for you. Sometimes a little more pressure alleviates the ticklish feeling. Relaxation helps, too, and the practitioner will have several techniques for relaxation at her disposal.
